155/365

We went to London to have dinner with some other ex-pats and came across this building. I apologize for the crap photo, but hopefully you can see the words on the lower left say "Chinese MEDICNE College" and on the lower right says the correct "Chinese MEDICINE College". You'd think the Language College which appears to be upstairs could have helped them...

141/365

We went to Richmond today and came through Twickenham on the way home. This is not a flood, but the River Thames at high tide! Did you know a river could be tidal? I didnt!

Also, we went to an Indian market in Southall and guess what David found?! MOUNTAIN DEW! Who would have thought??

We went with David's parents to the National Theatre today to see a play called "The Power of Yes", all about the banking/financial crisis. It was mcuh like a lecture, and the lady next to me fell asleep, but I manged to stay awake. Horray for small victories!

27/365: Covent Garden Has Talent

I went into London today to meet with yet another recruitment agency, go to a charity career and volunteer fair and to meet up with some girls from the ex-pat website to which I belong.
The recruiter was as helpful or unhelpful as the rest and didnt give me much hope that he would be the one to come through in the end, but we'll see. The charity fair turned out to be much more about charities looking for volunteers rather than employers, but I suppose that was to be expected. It was really nice to have some girly talk with some other ex-pats and to hear that I am not alone with some of the issues I've been having, so I hope we can do these things regularly.

While I was waiting to meet the girls, I went to Covent Garden (of course!) and came across a fabulous really funny street show. The host picked some poor guys off the street and had them compete in what he called "Covent Garden Has Talent" like the TV show Britain's (or America's) Got Talent. Here is a bit of what he did:

17/365: Notting Hill Carnival

We went to the Notting Hill Carnival today and drank ... alot... for a long time. We went with the intention of catching the train back home and ended up at a hotel because we simply couldnt make the journey home.
As for the Carnival itself, its really not my thing with all the drum and bass music, porta-potties, trash everywhere and idiots dancing in the street running into me, but after some rum punch, I could handle it :)

We met this nice old guy on the street - he said he lives in Notting Hill and has been coming to the carnival for 44 years. I dont know if you can tell, but thats a very well behaved Jack Russell Terrier around his neck.

Now as I write this, its actually two days after the Carnival and I think I am still hungover and my tinitus is really annoying loud thanks to all the terrible dance music.

What I learned today: Sambuca is liquid evil.
