We went car shopping today at what is supposedly the largest car dealership in Europe. We left empty handed, but I think we've narrowed it down and maybe, just maybe, will pull the trigger next week.

Meet my new friend William. I don't know his real name, but he's the cat I've been threatening to kidnap if I could ever get my hands on him and he followed me home from work today! I stopped to talk to him and warn him of the dangers of being outside and he rubbed all over me and head butted like Valetine used to do. After a bit of play, I said goodbye and he just followed me! He came inside the house, but then saw Mirra and ran outside. :(

We went south of Cork today to Kinsale, a super cute sea side town (village) that I can imagine is absolutely packd during the summer months as it would be the most perfect place to spend a warm day/evening and I am jealous of those who are able to do so! We then went even further south to a place called The Old Head of Kinsale - a little peninsula sticky-outy bit on the southern coast. I am so glad we made it down there! It was absolutely beautiful and officially one of the most amazing places I have ever seen. There is a bit of controversy surrounding this place as the very tip of Old Head is a private golf club and closed to public access... what a shame. I think I'll join the protesting group and write some strongly worded letters to someone about this. Oh, also, there is a small memorial at Old Head because this is where the Lusitania was torpedoed, which, according to Wikipedia, was one of the main reasons the US entered WWI. There you go!

David had a meeting in Cork (Ireland), so I went along for the ride. Saint Patrick's day is coming up and the Irish are already geared up for it. I shopped at the Irish version of Primark, tried some Murphy's Ale at the advice of a taxi driver who claims is one of those things that tastes different in Cork (it was established there, apparently), ate some Mexican food (much to my pleasant surprise!), giggled at signs in Gaelic and learned that there is a strong connection between Ireland and America that I somehow never understood before... (all while David was at his meeting!)

We dropped Mirra off at David's parents tonight (before our trip to Cork) and I had a mini breakdown of sorts. Not really because I had to leave her somewhere, but because I realized that I have no one here (other than David) that I trust.
You can meet a million people, even make some friends, but I think I have learned the hardest thing about moving to an entirely new place is finding people to really trust and/or rely on if you need them. Back home, I have at least three people I trust implicitly with anything and a handful more I know will always help/support me if they can. Here, even though I have David around most of the time, I do find myself feeling lonely and I think this is why. It's one thing to spend time with acquaintances (people at work, David's friends, etc) or even those you consider friends, but another thing entirely to spend time with people who you know actually care about, respect and value you. Without that type of social interaction, I argue that a person will always be lonely - even if they have hundreds of "emptier" relationships or are consistantly surrounded by acquaintances.
Finding "friends" and people to simply join for a drink is hard enough, but finding and building these special relationships seems downright daunting and defintely reason to feel discouraged...

That is my new swimsuit (or costume as they say here). This afternoon David suggested we go to the gym tonight for a swim... Now ladies will know the first thought that came to my mind when I heard the word swim - "I have to wear a swimsuit!!! Eeek!" But it us fun to swim and it's exercise (which after thinking of myself in a swimsuit, I know I desperately need) so I took an emergency trip to Debenhams and actually found a suitable suit in the 10 mins before the store closed. Miracle! Maybe my swimsuit and I will have to go to the beach this summer. (Three cheers for not being landlocked anymore!)
